NEUROFEEDBACK

What is NEUROFEEDBACK?

There are many ways to measure a person’s ability to learn, think and even behave. Written tests are the most common method of identifying these things; however, these may not be entirely accurate modes of measurement.

Neurofeedback is a technology that does not require drugs in maximizing the brain function. It uses special monitoring equipment that has been proven effectively amazing through clinical studies for the past 40 years.

How does Neurofeedback Work?

Neurofeedback trains relaxation, attention and concentration; it enhances memory and is most effective in hyperactivity reduction.
The brain mapping process begins through the attachment of Electroencephalography or EEG amplifier on the head, which is connected to a computer that interprets the brainwaves as it increases with activity. It entails placing a cap with 20 electrodes onto the head of the participant and injecting gel into the electrodes. Then, we use the electrodes to pick up microvolts of electrical potentials generated by the brain, which show up as brainwaves (looks like squiggles). We then interpret the squiggles in their raw form, as well as run them through many types of digitized filters (i.e. different software), that breaks them into their respective components and brainwave bandwidths of Delta (0-4 Hz), theta (5-8 Hz), alpha (9-12 Hz), low beta (13-16 Hz), mid beta (17-25Hz), hi beta (26-40Hz), and gamma (41-70Hz).
With this data and the use of different databases of hundreds of others’ EEGs, we are able to determine where the individual is different from the norm—for better or for worse. We are able to look not only at the brainwaves, but also the relationship of the brainwaves to one another, the symmetry of the brain, the stability of the brainwave relationships, and the areas where the brain might be generating problematic signals, manifesting in problematic symptoms and behaviours.
The QEEG Brain Mapping Assessment is a direct method that measures development, activity, balance, attention, concentration, relaxation and learning activity by means of measuring the brain waves, which are electrical signals, generated through the brain when information is exchanged. Rather than written exams, this is very accurate especially when it is for diagnosis or treatment for children with hyperactivity problems.
Neurofeedback is perfectly safe! Do not let the wires intimidate you. There are many long term benefits from this scientific wonder for both children and adults alike. The following advantages are:
